Unbelievable Downtown Condo Renovation

Today we’re excited to share a downtown Memphis condo renovation that we had the pleasure of working on with Ken Garland as builder and MMI designer, Laurie Conway as lead on the design project. It was truly an amazing transformation!

The clients were looking to update their downtown condo and make it a more inviting space to entertain their children and grandchildren when they came to visit. Laurie knew that she really wanted to emphasize the incredible view of the Mississippi River, and also make the space feel bigger, so she started by removing the upper cabinets in the kitchen to open it up a bit.

Laurie chose light gray contemporary custom cabinetry and lighter countertops, and she also added LED lighting to the kitchen/dining area for a modern update. She extended the island forward as well as taking it down to a counter height from a bar height. These small changes along with removing the upper cabinetry really brought the view of the river as the main focus.

Large scale 24 x 48 flooring was added throughout the condo to elongate the space as well as bring consistency and reflect light. The popcorn ceiling was removed and the walls were painted crisp white. Laurie designed and added a fireplace wall in the living area, which really defined the space!

For the master bath, Laurie knew that she needed to also open up the space so she used a lighter floating cabinet and removed the dark counter top to make the room feel bigger. The shower was opened up and the existing garden tub was replaced with a soaking tub.

For furniture selection, Laurie wanted to keep things cohesive but a more organic feel, so she brought in texture and warmth with woods and fabric selections. She layered in accessories for added texture and used antique rugs for wall hangings. A beautiful sectional was added that could be configured in several different ways for additional sleeping.

The transformation was major and our amazing MMI install team came together to accomplish this seamlessly. We’re so grateful for the feeling of community we get to enjoy with our team and for the opportunity to be a positive economic force in memphis. We love our staff! We love our clients. We love our city!
